Spring half-term 2027: two holidays, an empty week in between

The krokusvakantie still feels far away. This is nevertheless the moment to look at it. In 2027 the holiday in Flanders and the carnival break in French-speaking schools do not follow each other. They are two weeks apart. In between sits a week when neither group is on holiday.

That changes how you price February. In this article you will see what the calendar says, what it may mean for demand and what you can already set up.

What the calendar says

For the 2026-2027 school year, the Flemish government lists a krokusvakantie from Monday 8 February to Sunday 14 February 2027. That is early compared with last year, when the holiday ran from 16 to 22 February.

The French Community plans the congé de détente, the carnival break, from Monday 22 February to Friday 5 March 2027. That is two weeks. These dates come from the school calendar overview published by RTBF, which remains subject to the decree. Check them on enseignement.be before you fix your prices for good.

In short, February 2027 looks like this:

  • 8 to 14 February: krokusvakantie in Flanders.
  • 15 to 21 February: neither community is on holiday.
  • 22 February to 5 March: carnival break in French-speaking schools, two weeks.

Last year the first week still overlapped. This year it does not. That makes it a different game.

Three weeks, three kinds of demand

The first week is mainly Flemish. Families from Flanders look for a short trip, often to the coast or the Westhoek. Expect many requests for three or four nights, with a strong weekend on either side.

The week after is quieter. Neither Belgian community is on holiday then. If you have regular guests who travel outside school holidays, such as couples or retirees, you can still win bookings here. Do not count on the same demand as the week before.

The last two weeks are French-speaking. Many families from Wallonia and Brussels then look for a stay, including at the coast. Demand may therefore pick up again, and it spreads over two weeks. That gives you more room to spread out.

Nobody knows today what demand will be. Look at your bookings again in December and January, then adjust.

Price the weeks separately

A common mistake is one price for the whole of February. You then lose at two moments: too cheap in the peak weeks, too expensive in the quiet one.

A simple approach:

  1. Set the Flemish holiday week and the two French-speaking weeks clearly above an ordinary winter week.
  2. Keep the week in between closer to your normal winter price.
  3. Look at the weekends separately. The weekend of 6 and 7 February, that of 13 and 14 February and that of 20 and 21 February all sit on the edge of a holiday period.
  4. Follow each week separately and adjust until arrival.

You do not need to choose a final price today. You can, however, decide now which weeks you will treat as peaks and which you will not.

Minimum stay per week

The minimum stay may also differ from week to week.

In the Flemish holiday week, many families look for a short stay. A minimum of three or four nights protects your calendar from loose nights. If you want to be full for the week, allow a week-long stay too.

In the empty week in between, a shorter minimum works better, for example two nights. That fills gaps that would otherwise stay empty.

For the two French-speaking weeks, a slightly longer minimum fits. Families who go away for a few days gladly book four nights or more. A stay that straddles two weeks is certainly worth allowing.

Compare each minimum with what you saw in the preceding months. If loose nights often cause you trouble, keep it higher. If the calendar stays empty, lower it a little.

Winter comfort decides your reviews

February is cold and often wet. Guests spend more time indoors. A home that is prepared for that scores better.

Check before the holiday:

  • that the heating warms up quickly and works well after an empty spell
  • that there are enough blankets, extra cushions and towels
  • that there are games, books or a good television for rainy days
  • that the entrance stays dry and safe in rain, wind or frost
  • that the cleaning can also cope with sand and wet coats

Do not leave the home cold for longer than necessary. A building left unheated for days feels damp on arrival. You will read that back in the review.

Do not forget the wider calendar

If you also welcome Dutch or German guests, check their school holidays on the official websites. They do not coincide with the Belgian ones. Use only dates that you have checked yourself.

Put the first months of 2027 in one overview. That way you see at a glance where your strong weeks are and where you still have room for a shorter minimum stay or a small offer.
